Attitude of gratitude

I was watching an episode of the Simpsons back in the early 90’s, Bart was really upset and said to Homer, “this is the worst day of my life.” Homer walked over to the troubled Bart, dropped down on one knee as if to console him, and in his infinite wisdom, said, Continue reading

Worth the pain.

I am not an expert in many areas but I have mastered the art of making bad decisions and I am a self proclaimed expert in pain, most of which is self induced and the rest is caused from a joint disease called Elhers Danlos Syndrome. Pain is a natural response to keep us out of trouble. In a way, it’s a good thing because without it you couldn’t even take a bath without getting burned. On the flip side, pain can rule your life, it can knock you down and keep you there. Continue reading

Diets are for the birds.

My wife loves to watch the birds from out of the kitchen window. We have three different feeders that we stock regularly. Recently we noticed that the birds had gained so much weight that they could no longer fly Continue reading

Motivation is a scam.

Post  #6         Healthy Thinking  #5

I remember it like yesterday. I was perched on the couch pounding potato chips and diet Pepsi watching The Biggest Loser. By the end of the show I was more motivated than Rocky Balboa seconds before he knocked down the Russian, Dolph Lundgren. I was overcome with emotions and grabbed onto the hope that if a fellow morbidly obese person could lose over 20 pounds in a 40 minute episode then Continue reading

The first step to a healthy diet

Photo Collage Maker_z6sFyj

To be honest I’m a little uneasy about my first food post. I try to think back a couple years as to what I would have listened to about nutrition and a healthy diet. Ok,  I wouldn’t have listened to anything or anyone and I don’t think anyone will listen unless they really are searching for change. Nevertheless I want to tread very lightly. …..for now. I don’t think I can even begin to write about changing food choices until I explain at least a little history and my former diet. I grew up working on a dairy farm. We had a constant supply of beef, pork, and fresh milk. My three main food groups were meat, cheese,  and fast food . This is what the average day looked like for me about five years ago: Continue reading

Fear that Cripples

Watching my dog navigate on the Pergo floor is very entertaining and at times pretty humorous. When he walks on the floor he freaks out because he thinks he is going to slip and wipe out.
He starts to freak then his legs stiffen up and he does a sort of 4 way split which freaks him out more sending him into a full on panic thrashing all over the place until he makes it to the safety of a carpet or throw rug. The best part of these episodes is that they are entirely self-induced. If I toss one of his toys across the room he will chase it down at lightning speed. He moves from room to room like a Continue reading

The reason why you should never exercise………. ever.

Have you ever wondered why people don’t exercise? Have you ever wondered why the gym sells the majority of their memberships in January and by February the gym is empty? According to Statistic Brain Research Institute a whopping 67% of all gym memberships never get used. I think the answer is very simple. ….Exercise is a bad deal….. That is, at least when it comes to Continue reading

A different way to lose weight.

6-1-20130 368                                 20150919_123504                            Walking out of the doctor’s office reality had finally sunk in. I was not going to be around for another year. My wife and kids would very likely not have a husband or father within the year. My blood pressure was 255/115, I was on three medications to bring it down. My cholesterol and triglycerides were off the charts (literally). I was a ton of heavy medications I was also self medicating and Continue reading
